This Privacy Policy explains which personal data GreenThumb Notes (greenthumbnotes.com) processes when you visit the website or get in touch, why we do it, how long we keep it, and which rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Austrian law.
The short version
- When you open a page, our host processes technical data such as your IP address so the page can be delivered and the site stays secure.
- Google Analytics measures which articles are read, using cookies.
- Many articles show pins embedded from Pinterest, which are loaded from Pinterest’s servers.
- If you write to us, we use your name, email address and message only to answer you.
- There are no reader accounts, no comment section and no newsletter, and we never sell personal data.
1. Who is responsible
The controller under the GDPR is:
Dominik Weiss
Görgengasse 9-11, Stiege 4, Tür 2
1190 Vienna, Austria
Email: contact@greenthumbnotes.com
More details are in our Legal Notice. We are not legally required to appoint a data protection officer and have not done so.
2. Hosting and server log files
The website runs on servers of Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, Lumiel Building, 4th floor, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus. Hostinger processes data only on our behalf and under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).
Each time you open a page, the server automatically records:
- your IP address
- the date and time of the request
- the page you opened and the website you came from (referrer)
- your browser, its version and your operating system
We need this data to deliver the website, find errors and fight attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are deleted after a short period, unless we need a specific entry to investigate a security incident.
Security software on the server checks incoming requests for attacks and malware, which also uses IP addresses and request details. A caching tool stores copies of our pages on the server so they load faster; it does not create profiles of visitors. We also keep regular backups of the website so it can be restored after a fault. Backups may contain the data described in this policy and are used for nothing else.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Under Austrian law (§ 165(3) TKG 2021), cookies that are not strictly necessary to run a service you asked for may only be used with your consent. Which cookies this website uses, and for how long, is listed in our Cookie Policy.
4. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, connected through the “Site Kit by Google” plugin, to understand how readers use GreenThumb Notes: which articles are read, how visitors find us and which devices they use. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Google Analytics uses cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) that recognise your browser for up to two years. It records, for example, the pages you view, how long you stay, the website that sent you, your device and browser, and your approximate location (country and city). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. The data is kept in our Analytics account for at most 14 months.
Google may process this data in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has issued an adequacy decision.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 165(3) TKG 2021), which you can withdraw at any time with effect for the future. You can also block Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on or your browser’s tracking protection. More information: Google’s privacy policy.
5. Pinterest embeds and share links
Many articles show pins embedded from Pinterest, so you can see the original idea and its creator. When a page with an embedded pin loads, your browser connects to Pinterest’s servers. Pinterest then receives technical data such as your IP address, browser details and the address of the page, and may read or set cookies, in particular if you are logged in to Pinterest.
The provider is Pinterest Europe Ltd., Palmerston House, 2nd Floor, Fenian Street, Dublin 2, Ireland. Pinterest states that data transferred to Pinterest, Inc. in the USA is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the EU standard contractual clauses. Where cookies are involved, the legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 165(3) TKG 2021); otherwise it is our legitimate interest in showing ideas together with their original source (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). More information: Pinterest’s privacy policy.
The “Pin it”, Facebook, WhatsApp and Email buttons under each article are plain links. Nothing is sent to these services unless you click one, and then that service’s own privacy policy applies.
6. Contact form and email
When you use the form on our Contact page, we receive your name, email address, the topic you chose and your message. The form also records that you confirmed reading this Privacy Policy. The message is stored in the website’s database and sent to our inbox by email. A hidden spam-trap field blocks automated spam, so no outside CAPTCHA service is used. The same applies when you email us directly.
We use these details only to handle your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering messages (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, if your message is about a possible collaboration, steps before a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). We delete messages once your request has been dealt with, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
7. Fonts and other files
The fonts on this website (Manrope and DM Serif Display) are stored on our own server, so no connection is made to Google Fonts. Images, scripts and style sheets also come from our server, except for Google Analytics (section 4) and Pinterest embeds (section 5).
8. Affiliate links
Some articles may contain affiliate links, for example to Amazon. When you click one and buy something, the retailer may set a cookie on its own website to record that you came from GreenThumb Notes. We only receive anonymous sales reports, never your name or order details. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
9. Advertising
This website may show ads delivered by Mediavine. The notice below describes Mediavine’s data processing and applies whenever Mediavine ads appear on GreenThumb Notes.
Mediavine Advertising Privacy Notice v. 1.2
Mediavine works with this site to support the delivery of ads that align with your interests. It collects information about your online activities and browsing information, including websites you visit, pages you view, search terms, the apps you use, the language and device you use, location, and emails from newsletter sign ups. This information is then passed to partners to enable them to display interest based advertising to you.
This Notice is specific to Mediavine and explains how Mediavine collects, uses, shares, or sells your personal information when you visit this site or sign up for a newsletter managed by Mediavine. This website must disclose any collection, use, sharing or sale of personal data beyond the services provided by Mediavine in its own privacy notice (above) and comply with relevant privacy laws.
What personal data does Mediavine collect?
Mediavine may collect:
- IP Address (unique address that identifies your computer or phone on the internet)
- Location (country, city, state)
- Operating System (e.g., Windows or Mac)
- Device Information (hardware, platform, location and carrier data)
- Language of the Website or Browser
- Web Browser Type (e.g., Chrome, Firefox or Safari)
- Email address
When you visit this site, Mediavine uses cookies and similar technologies, such as pixels and tags, to collect your information about your behavior on this site and other websites you visit, across your devices. These tools track preferences, website visits and activities, interactions with emails and ads, and evaluate effectiveness of emails and ads and record which ads have been shown to you to enable the delivery of interest based ads on this site. To learn more, please visit https://www.allaboutcookies.org; ICO – What are cookies and similar technologies; https://learnwebanalytics.com/whats-the-difference-between-a-cookie-a-pixel-and-a-tag.
In some cases, Mediavine may manage a site’s newsletter. Mediavine collects your email directly from you through the newsletter sign up form, and will request your consent to use your email for interest based advertising. Your email will be converted into hashed format – a unique set of numbers and letters representing your email – before being sent to partners. If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, you may unsubscribe at any time using the “Unsubscribe” button.
Does Mediavine share or sell my personal information for interest based advertising
Yes, Mediavine will use, share, license, sell or otherwise disclose your personal information to our partners to enable interest based advertising to be displayed to you on this site. Through the bidstream, an online marketplace, Mediavine shares data, such as ad location, site content, and your personal information with advertisers. Using this information, advertisers bid for ad space, and the winning bidder gets to display their ad to you on this site.
Mediavine may share your personal data with partners to create a universal (unique) identifier linked to your online behavior and preferences. This identifier is added to the bid request to improve the targeting of interest based ads. Mediavine and its partners may also combine your personal data collected from your interaction with this site with your data that they have collected from other sources to create a profile of your interests and behaviors to provide interest based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers, and applications. Mediavine could also license your personal data from its partners to enrich the information in its bid request to advertisers.
